Academic English Exams Explained

Cambridge Starters

The Cambridge Starters exam is the first level in the series of Cambridge exams for young learners. The exam is intended for children who are just beginning to learn English and have little or no experience. Parents who want to assess their child’s progress in learning English can sign them up for the Cambridge Starters exam. We use Cambridge Power Up 1, 2 and 3 to help young learners prepare for the Cambridge Starters exam. The exam can be used to show English proficiency to study in schools in an English speaking country. By starting to study English at a young age students will acquire it naturally as they have their first language. 

Cambridge English: First (FCE)

The Cambridge English: First (FCE) assesses the upper-intermediate English language skills of at the B2 level.Students should have a strong foundation in English before beginning study for English at the FCE level.

We use the National Geographic Pathways curriculum to develop literacy at the B2 level through reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

The FCE is best for students who want to study at an international school or prove their abilities in English at the intermediate level. The exam qualification can help students who want to study abroad one day easily transition into the English speaking country of their choice.  

TOEFL Junior

The TOEFL Junior exam is designed to assess the English language proficiency of young learners aged 11 and up who are preparing to study abroad in an English-speaking country. TThe exam assesses a range of language skills, including reading, listening, and language use, and provides a reliable measure of a student’s English language proficiency. By taking the TOEFL Junior exam and achieving a high score, young learners can demonstrate their readiness to study and succeed in an English-speaking academic environment. It will afford them the chance of studying abroad in the USA, UK, Australia, or New Zealand if they receive a high score.

Cambridge English: KEY (KET)

The Cambridge English: Key (KET) exam is designed to assess the basic English language skills of students at the A2 level. This exam is suitable for young learners who need to develop skills to a basic level. The course is recommended for students who have at least 100 hours of study. We use Cambridge Power Up level 3 and 4 to prepare students for the exam. The course will prepare your student for the KET exam while deepending their understanding of English and developing critical thinking skills in English. It will set them on the path to becoming competent bilinguals and afford them the chance of studying in private international schools. The exam is excellent for those who want their child to study abroad. 

Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)

The Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) exam is designed to assess the advanced English language skills of students at the C1 level. This exam is suitable for learners who have already achieved a high level of English proficiency and want to demonstrate their language skills for academic or professional purposes. People take the CAE exam to receive a certificate verifying their English proficiency which then verifies their level of proficiency in English. Upon passing the CAE exam, learners will be able to work and study in an English-speaking country with ease and integrate into English-speaking society and communicate effectively in a variety of contexts. Studying for this is best if you want to permanently live or study in an English speaking country. At this level you are more competent in writing than many native English speakers.

TOEFL

The exam is designed to assess the English language skills of non-native speakers who want to study or work in an English-speaking environment. Cambridge English: Preliminary (PET)

The Cambridge English: Preliminary (PET) exam is designed to assess the intermediate English language skills of students at the B1 level. This exam is suitable for young learners who have a solid foundation in English and want to improve their language skills further. At this level students will be able to communicate clearly using basic everyday English. We use Power Up levels 5 and 6 to help students meet teh competencies of the exam while learning social and emotional and critical thinking skills in English.

The Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE)

The Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) exam is designed to assess the highest level of English language proficiency, which is the C2 level. This exam is intended for learners who have achieved near-native proficiency in English and want to demonstrate their advanced language skills. Upon passing the CPE exam, learners can demonstrate that they can use English in every context spontaneously and with little effort and near-native proficiency. We use authentic learning materials to help students develop their advanced English language skills for the CPE exam. Studying for this course and achieving the qualification means your English is equivalent to a native English speaker holding a Master’s degree. 

IELTS Academic

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic is an English language proficiency exam that is widely recognized and accepted by universities, colleges, and other academic institutions in English-speaking countries around the world. It provides a reliable measure of a student’s English language proficiency and is often used as part of the admission process for undergraduate or graduate programs. If you want to study in an English speaking country you will need to achieve a high band score on this exam.
